• Responsible for supporting supplier quality objectives. Accountable for the timely analysis & resolution of technical problems related to procured material.
• Understand and articulate supplier capability through formal analysis.
• Work with Purchasing and Quality Assurance to improve Supplier Qualification Programs.
• Develop and conduct On-Site Supplier Audits and New Supplier Surveys to evaluate new supplier potential,
establish areas of improvements needed prior to awarding of business, and
Bachelors degree (or equivalent experience) and 5 years of related experience or Masters Degree with 3 years of related experience. evaluate supplier processes to ensure consistent and robust manufacturing methods are being employed.
• Champion and drive meetings and follow up with suppliers impacting fit-for-use initiatives.
• Develop and report metrics of supplier performance to department management, senior management, and suppliers.
• Work with Purchasing and Quality Management to improve Supplier Quality Programs aimed at achieving customer/supplier quality improvements through LEAN & six-Sigma tool implementation programs at the supplier facilities as well as at Varian.
• Inspect parts using CMM, Optical Comparator, and other QA tools.
• Develop and Champion an improved approach to the launching of a new or revised product with suppliers to ensure…
o PFMEA/DFMEA type of activities have been conducted
o Project timelines established are progressing
o Process control measures have been established and implemented prior to production start
o All pertinent testing and durability trials have been conducted.
• Ensure suppliers adhere to quality requirements and that supplier quality systems are maintained.
• Assist plant based Quality Assurance and Design Engineering in developing receiving inspection documents, and modify existing component specifications for the purpose of improving processes and products.
• Follow-up responsibility for Supplier Corrective Action system.
• Participate in new product development teams.
• Undertake special assignments at the direction of the Supplier Quality Assurance Manager.
• 10% travel is expected in this position with the majority being North America based.
• Requires ability to effectively utilize Lean and SPC tools.
• Requires expertise in the areas of statistical plans and lot acceptance-sampling methodologies.
• Must be able to interpret technical documents, regulations, and specifications.
• A technical understanding of manufacturing processes and corrective actions is essential.
• Must be assertive, persistent and independent enough to ensure that issues raised are properly addressed in a timely manner.
• Strives to improve personal education, skills and knowledge to improve Varian’s position as an industry leader.
